Anton Chekhov Biography

I still remember when I was in school; I read one story “The Bet”. The story was published in my English Literature book. I have read many stories but this story was special because it brings tears in my eyes. Reading story is a part of my course and I usually do not read the Author Name.

After reading that story, I read the Author Name and that name I will never forget in my life. The name is “Anton Chekhov”. From that day, I became the great fan of Anton Chekhov and I start loving stories. I start loving writing.

According to me if you want to know a person then you must try to know his entire life, his childhood, his education and his career life. To be successful, you need to know the traits of successful people and for that you need to read their stories. It is one of the best ways to achieve success.

Today in this article, I will write a short biography of Anton Chekhov along with some of its most enthralling quotes. These quotes will inspire you a lot and may bring tears in your eyes.

Anton Chekhov was born in Taganrog, Russia on January 29, 1860. He is known for his short stories. He wrote about 600 short stories in his small life of 44 years. He died on July 15, 1904. His father was a grocer and his mother used to love him by telling him the stories.

His father moved to Moscow in 1875 after his business was discontinued. During this time, Anton Chekhov helped his family financially by writing stories for one of the newspaper.

However, his family moved to Moscow but he remained in Taganrog to complete his studies. Later on he went to Moscow and become a physician. He once said, “Medicine is my wife and writing is my Mistress, I cannot live without either”

Until 1885, he used to work as a physician and start publishing some of its outstanding work of fiction in New Times newspapers. Along with 600 stories, he wrote some 17 plays. Some of his famous plays are The Three Sisters, The Cherry Orchard and The Uncle Vanya.

Chekhov always feels that his stories are of Mediocre but he got famous after his death. He died in a very short age just after 4 years of his marriage with Olga Knipper. He married in 1901 and he 1904 due to tuberculosis.  

His style of writing was reflected in the writing of Great Authors like Ernest Hemingway, James Joyce, Tennessee Williams and Henry Miller.

He was also considered one of the most famous Russian Authors besides Leo Tolstoy, Alexander Pushkin and Fyodor Dostoyevsky. Some of his famous short stories are The Steppe, The Bet, The Confession, Ward no.6 and the lady with the dog.
